Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Fleet Operations Director to lead and scale all aspects of fleet maintenance, operations, and vendor management for a rapidly growing fleet across 6 US markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end fleet operations for up to 600 vehicles, ensuring road readiness and operational reliability.
  • Lead and manage the internal maintenance shop, including oversight of 14 mechanics in Los Angeles, ensuring productivity, quality of work, and safety standards.
  • Hire, train, mentor, and conduct performance evaluations for mechanics and maintenance staff.
  • Make strategic decisions on vehicle repair and maintenance, including determining whether damaged vehicles should be serviced in-house or outsourced to third-party vendors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with third-party service providers and negotiate competitive contracts across multiple cities.
  • Ensure vehicles are properly maintained, repaired, and ready for dispatch to support daily operations.
  • Manage and forecast fleet maintenance budgets, operational expenses, and cost optimization strategies.
  • Oversee supply chain and inventory management for the maintenance shop, ensuring proper stock of parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Implement operational processes that help scale the fleet from small-business operations to enterprise-level systems and efficiencies.
  • Track and report on fleet performance metrics, maintenance costs, downtime, and operational KPIs.
  • Partner closely with operations teams to ensure vehicles are consistently available and ready for deployment.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal transportation and safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in fleet operations, transportation, logistics, or automotive maintenance management.
  • 3+ years in a leadership role managing maintenance teams or operational staff.
  • Experience managing large fleets (300–600+ vehicles preferred).
  • Proven experience negotiating and managing third-party vendors and service providers.
  • Strong experience managing maintenance operations, vehicle readiness, and repair workflows.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience hiring, coaching, and performance managing teams.
  • Ability to implement systems and processes that support scaling operations to an enterprise level.
  • Excellent problem-solving, operational planning, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Have Fleet Management software (Fleetio) experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma certification or other process improvement certification
  • Experience implementing lean operations or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Background in high-growth or fast-paced operational environments

Compensation: $100,000–$120,000 annually depending on experience, plus benefits
