Job Description
Position Summary
An exciting ride-share technology company is seeking an experienced Labor Attorney to support and advise the company on California labor and employment law matters. This role partners closely with HR, leadership, and operations to manage risk, ensure compliance, and handle labor relations issues. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with California employment laws and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, business-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on California labor and employment laws, including wage and hour, meal and rest periods, leave laws (CFRA, FMLA, PDL), discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and employee classification
- Support labor relations matters, including union issues, collective bargaining preparation, grievance handling, and unfair labor practice matters (if applicable)
- Draft, review, and update employment policies, handbooks, agreements, and HR documentation
- Manage and respond to administrative claims and agency matters, including DLSE, DFEH/CRD, EEOC, and NLRB
- Oversee outside counsel on litigation, arbitrations, and agency proceedings; assist with strategy, discovery, and settlement discussions
- Conduct or advise on internal investigations related to employee complaints and workplace issues
- Advise HR and management on employee discipline, terminations, reductions in force, and performance management
- Monitor changes in California and federal labor laws and proactively advise the business on compliance and risk mitigation
- Assist with training for managers and HR on labor and employment compliance topics
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing of the California State Bar
- 3–7 years of experience practicing labor and employment law, preferably in-house or with significant California employer-side experience
- Strong working knowledge of California labor laws and regulations
- Experience managing agency claims and working with outside counsel
- Practical, business-oriented judgment and the ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers
Preferred Qualifications
- In-house legal experience supporting HR or operations teams
- Experience with unionized environments or collective bargaining
- Litigation or arbitration experience in employment matters
- Experience in transportation, logistics, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries

Compensation: $170,000-$240,000 commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
